Top Treatments fall into three major categories. Cornices, Valances and Swags. Top treatments can be used on their own or together with drapery depending on the specific situation.
Cornices are valances usually built with wood they can be fabric covered (upholstered) or simply stained they are used either on their own usually on a small window or to cover the heading of drapery. When cornices are covered with fabric the provide a beautiful rich padded fabric look. Due to the strength and ability to shape wood they can be made wither in a simple rectangle or can be curved to provide additional elegance.
Valances are usually up to 18" in height and come in many forms. Valances can be made using a pleat style or flat and are primarily used as decorative window coverings.
Swags come in many shapes and sizes. They can be structured or just a piece of fabric draped over a piece of drapery hardware. Although swags are used to reinforce a very traditional look they can with the correct fabric application provide a modern twist to an otherwise traditional room.
