Goblet Pleat Drapery
Goblet Pleat Drapery is a versatile window treatment that can be used in many different settings as a great way to add a bit of something different to a space. While ready made drapery can be found as Tab Top Drapery or even Pinch Pleated, Goblet Pleats due to the labour intensive nature of the pleat are traditionally only found as custom made drapery. With the right fabric this type of drapery looks great in both modern and traditional spaces.
In many Toronto homes Goblet pleats are used as an decorative alternative to Swags and Valances.
The goblet or cup shape for this type of curtain is formed by stuffing either a preformed cone (lower quality and will over time degrade) or carefully hand stuffing batting into the hole formed the the top of the drapery. This gives the pleat its unique and pleasing form.
These pleats can be used both to add interest to a plain or striped fabric or to highlight a pattern as was done in the image above. This style of drapery traverses well and has a somewhat smaller stack making it an ideal choice for operable drapery. Like other drapery that hangs on a hook it can be mounted both as a ceiling mount or wall mount application and tends to look best when made full length. Goblet pleat drapery should be made out of heavier fabrics as opposed to sheer drapery as the pleat is more pleasing when it has a structured stiff look to it.
